about

Fort de Pré-Giroud was part of Border Line defense system built in Switzerland in the 1930s in response to growing tensions with the neighboring countries and the prospect of the Nazi German invasion. The local fortification system was built to mislead the enemy. It was camouflaged to resemble a set of Swiss alpine huts sprinkled on the slope of the mountain. Until this very day, some elements of the infrastructure remain at the site. Rusted barbed wire continuously stretches through the pastures. Deployed to serve a new role, through a series of rhythmically launched electric shocks, it divides the land and disciplines movement of the local livestock.
